The Carl and Ruth Looney Scholarship was established by Bishop Richard C. Looney, who was elected the first Bishop of the South Georgia Annual Conference in 1988 where he served for 12 years. After retirement, he served as President of The Foundation for Evangelism and as the Episcopal Director of the Foundation. He continues to serve as Episcopal Director Emeritus for the Foundation since his retirement.
The scholarship funds, up to $1000 per application, are available to South Georgia clergy to be used for learning and development opportunities specifically around evangelism.
Bishop Looney has always had a heart for evangelism and was selected by the Foundation for Evangelism as the 2014 Distinguished Evangelist of The United Methodist Church. For more information about the award, please contact Suzanne Akins, suzanne@sgaumc.com.
