Courageous Conversations

Models for Congregational Conversations

When the topic is tough, we need to listen

Webinar: Courageous Conversations (Allison Lindsey, Connectional Ministries)
Courageous Conversations is a toolbox that local churches can use to inspire and encourage the church and individuals to participate in conversations that might seem difficult. With careful planning and structured dialogue, the aim of Courageous Conversations is learning. This webinar explores how adults learn best: when they question their assumptions and others’ assumptions and when they dialogue with one another. View video.

Model: Courageous Conversations (Discipleship Ministries)
Courageous Conversations offer learning through dialogue in community. The process encourages adults to question their own assumptions and those of others. This outline offers ideas and resources for conducting a Courageous Conversation about the Way Forward proposals. A downloadable pamphlet provides more information about the model.

Videos: A new video series from the United Methodist Commission on Religion and Raceoffers a study program for talking about race, the church and human sexuality among people who disagree. The program features short videos of theologians, pastors, worship and lay leaders, biblical scholars and community activists. View videos.

Conversation Guide: A resource from Young People's Ministries of the United Methodist Church, this conversation guide is designed for youth and young adult discussions. Download the guide pdf.
