The South Georgia Annual Conference will be joining the global fight against malaria. We are asking local churches and conference ministries to become involved by raising awareness and support for Imagine No Malaria. The first thing we will be working on as an annual conference is a special offering to be collected at the 2011 Annual Conference Session in Tifton during the opening worship service on June 5. If a collective check is being written by your church you can write it to the South Georgia Conference and earmark it Imagine No Malaria Conference Advance Special #5840 and bring it with you to the annual conference session.
Begin now thinking about how you can get creative in promoting this offering in your local setting. Check out the great resources below!
Imagine No Malaria is an initiative of the people of The United Methodist Church to raise $75 million to eliminate malaria deaths in Africa by 2015. In partnership with our brothers and sisters in Africa, the gifts and resources shared through Imagine No Malaria will empower an entire continent to achieve a sustainable victory over the disease.
Malaria is a preventable and treatable disease that has killed millions of people for thousands of years. While it has been practically eradicated in the United States, it is still ravaging the continent of Africa. Ninety percent (90%) of the deaths caused by malaria occur in Africa, where the disease is the leading killer among children. One in five deaths among children under the age of five is caused by malaria. Every 45 seconds a child in Africa dies from malaria.
How is your church making a difference through Imagine No Malaria? We'd love to hear how you are serving in this ministry. E-mail doreen@sgaumc.com with your story.
