We had a difficult time here at Utmost United Methodist Church this year keeping delegates for Annual Conference. Holden Tightly had been our delegate for years, mainly because he is retired and able to take the time to attend. Because of some health issues, Holden had to pass on attending this year, and Gustaf Hotaire, our alternate delegate, planned to attend in his place.
At the last minute, Gustaf’s wife got sick and he couldn’t go. Our pastor, Rev. Mostly Wright, got permission to have a called Church Conference to elect new delegates. Starr Bright, who has served in several offices on the Council, was elected, along with Hope Goins. Both are energetic young women and respected in the congregation.
When they returned from Annual Conference, they presented brief but insightful reports of the week. Mr. I. C. Clearly said, “The landscape of our church’s representation at Conference dramatically changed this year with the advent of two women with such vision. Holden and Gustaf represented us well over the years,” he said, “but we had gotten into something of a rut.”
Rev. Wright said, “Many of the new faces at Conference also brought new voices. They will make a difference.”
Until next time...
