Maybe So... (June 15)

6/15/2012

Dear Editor,

The sign in front of Utmost United Methodist Church has room for limited messages. Usually we run short of volunteers to update the sign during summer months.  Will Goforth, now chair of evangelism, eagerly volunteered to keep the sign current.

“I have lots of ideas for promoting our church,” he said.  “Lots of cars go by every day, and they need to see a fresh sign regularly.”  Will immediately went to work.  The first message he posted said, “The Bible's treasures can only be found by those who dig for them.”

It was pithy and eye catching.  But Will also posted the times for our Sunday services, the youth meeting, Wednesday family night, and Bible study. The sign was so crowded that one needed to stand before it to read it.  Our pastor, Rev. Mostly Wright said, “Will needs us to affirm the good he accomplishes and how to improve the project.

Izzen T. Wise said, “Will, your message is eye catching, but details muddy the message. The speed limit on the street is 45 mph.  Folks can’t – and won’t – read long messages at that speed. Maybe you could post only the quote.  Details of services and events could be placed elsewhere.”

Until next time...
