Our pastor here at Utmost United Methodist Church, Rev. Mostly Wright, told a funny story on himself. Earlier in his ministry he moved to a new pastorate. In his previous church the music director was a young man with excellent music leadership. He also had an extraordinary voice which Rev. Wright enjoyed hearing.
Once settled in his new appointment, Rev. Wright said that the church’s choir director was looking for a substitute and special music while he went on vacation. Rev. Wright thought it would be a great idea to invite his prior church’s music director to sing. He did, and also invited him and his wife to have dinner in our home after worship.
"The solo was even better than I remembered,” Rev. Wright said. “After dinner they stayed to visit … and stayed long into the afternoon. We were in a dilemma. After all, they had driven some distance and were doing us a favor, as no honorarium was being paid. Finally, we noticed that time was approaching for youth choir practice.
"We extended apologies about having to leave. It is the first time we welcomed the Sunday afternoon interruption by youth choir!"
Major Day laughed and said, "Maybe you should have paid an honorarium!"
Until next time ...
