Obituary: Rev. Marion Barton

Rev. Marion David Barton, age 82 of Wilcox County Ga. died Sunday January 14, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
 
Funeral Services will be 2:00pm Wednesday January 17, 2024 at Christian Home Baptist Church with Rev David Clark and Pastor Scott McDuffie officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until service time.  Interment will be private at Union Baptist Church.
 
David was born in Rockdale County Ga. to the late Elder Elton and Nora Mae Davis Barton. He was a member of the Wilcox County High Class of 1958, he would later receive a seminary degree from Emory University. He was a talented songwriter and musician, but his greatest joy came from being a pastor for more than 30 years throughout Georgia. David took great pride in his lawn, and could turn a cheap steak into a filet mignon with his grilling skills. He was also affectionately called Papa Potbelly by his grandchildren.  
 
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Payne Barton, children, Deborah Moore, Donna (Dee) Sellers and Scott (Renae) McDuffie, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a great friend and singing partner, Dottie Hodges and his loyal fur baby, Ava Grace.
 
David was deeply loved and will be missed every day.
