Obituary: Faye Williams Berkeley

February 04, 2024
Faye Williams Berkeley slipped quietly and peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Willow Pond Senior Care just a few days shy of her 90th birthday.

Faye was born in Portal, GA, on February 1, 1934, to Bonnylu Sanders Williams and Ben F. Williams, Sr. At the tender age of 16 years old, Faye left Portal to attend Asbury College in Wilmore, KY. It was there that she met the love of her life, Carter. They married in 1954 after graduating from Asbury and began their ministry together serving the Lord through the South Georgia Methodist Conference.

Faye was a loyal companion to her “Carta” during their 67 years of marriage until his death in 2021. During their 41 years of ministry, Faye loved supporting every church she and Carter served, opening her heart and home without hesitation. She was an elementary school teacher for 27 of those years, and had a deep love for every child she taught.

She exemplified Christlikeness in everything she did and had a true servant’s heart. She never met a stranger, and those she did meet quickly became friends. Her laugh was contagious and her joy and zest for life radiated from her. To know her truly was to love her. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and her deep devotion to them assured them of her unconditional love.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Rev. S. Carter Berkeley; her mother, Bonnylu Sanders Williams; her father, Ben F. Williams, Sr.; her brothers, Ray Williams and Ben “B.L” Williams; her granddaughter and namesake, Rachel Faye Dartez; and her great-grandson, Chandler Douglas Oglesby.  She is survived by her three daughters, Shirley (Ricky) Quick of Waynesboro; Beth (Tom) Dartez of Statesboro; and Sandy (John T.) Morris of Statesboro; her sister, Joy Causey; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Williams; eight grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Statesboro First United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Statesboro First United Methodist Church. Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
