Mrs. Penny Hudson, age 82, died Thursday morning, Jan. 5 at her residence following a short illness. She was born in Fitzgerald, Ga., and was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and Georgia Southern College.
Penny was a lifelong educator who retired after 40 years of service to the education profession. She had a true passion for helping and supporting her students. Penny was an excellent role model and made a huge impact on many children throughout her career.
Penny was a dedicated member of The United Methodist Church and was very active in the United Methodist Women’s group. Penny also worked side by side with her husband of 62 years, David, during his many years of service as a United Methodist minister.
Penny’s wit and intelligence will be remembered by all who knew her. Although a direct person, she was kind and understanding. She will be remembered by her children and grandchildren for her unconditional love and her delightful sense of humor.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, the Rev. David Elzie Hudson; her children, Julie Blackmar and Mark Hudson of Portal and Paul Hudson of Statesboro; her grandchildren, Hampton Hudson and Katelyn Hudson of Statesboro and Sam Blackmar of Portal.
The funeral service was held at Portal United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7 with the Rev. Jimmy Cason officiating, assisted by the Rev. Myra Barrett.
Pallbearers were Chris Archambeault, Christopher Archambeault Jr., Jamie Baker, Dlyen Baker, Hampton Hudson and Samuel Blackmar.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the United Methodist Women.
